Iron Dragon Shop Changes for 2021

Iron Dragon Shop Changes for 2021

2020 was the longest year in history yet also seems to have gone very quickly. Not sure how that works exactly—must be some screwed up space-time finagling… But now 2021 is upon us! I hope it will see things really turn around for everyone. All we can do until then is continue to take things one day at a time.

To coincide with the new year, there are some changes coming to the Iron Dragon Shop.

Holiday Shipping Deadlines

Holiday shipping deadlines are here!

The pandemic (and other factors) continues to create challenges for the mail system around the world. As a result, these cut off dates are for estimated delivery before December 25. Many carriers have removed their delivery time guarantees so order as early as possibleDelays are expected.

  • 🇨🇦 Nov 26 (outside AB); Dec 2 (inside AB)
  • 🇺🇸 Dec 15 – but earlier is better!
  • 🌍 🌏 Nov 18 – but earlier is better!

Yesterday was Thanksgiving in Canada! Happy Thanksgiving!

(And for Thanksgiving, Mother Nature decided to grace us with our first snowfall of the year! Wet, sloppy snow, yuck!)

Snowfall for Thanksgiving 2020

Gross, right?

Hidden Treasure! and Writerly Updates

Hi! Have you melted yet? It’s been very hot in Calgary recently and I’ve heard other places around the world are suffering just as much. I hope you’ve found good ways to stay cool! Me? Lately, I go to bed cuddled up with an icepack wrapped in a towel. My queendom for some air conditioning!

When it’s this hot, do you still find yourself reaching for your yarn? On July 20 I started knitting my very first sock and have been able to make decent progress with it (even had to frog and start it over from scratch) despite the heat. There are pictures on Instagram and Twitter if you’re curious!

I also couldn’t resist creating a brand new colorway that I’m really excited about!

Rethinking the Approach

When I started out as a dyer, my plan was to dye to match photos I’ve taken. I enjoy photography so the idea of using my pictures as inspiration for the yarn seemed like a great way to give my hobby a new layer of meaning.

Despite those best intentions, if I can be honest for a moment, I feel a little strangled. My shop has been open for almost eight months and I’m frustrated with how I’ve lagged behind where I thought I would be in terms of the variety of colorways I’m offering. Color matching dye to photos has turned out to be pretty challenging! Having the challenge is just fine, but at the same time… It’s been a slow process, much slower than I anticipated. Still getting established means I have to be careful about wasting supplies with failed experiments.
